If you are planning to go to Hatyai from Penang by train, this article is definitely useful.
Thailand train operated by Thai Railway Authority run from Padang Besar to Hatyai Junction station twice daily at 10am and 4.40pm. The train shuttle cost 50baht per pax.
From Hatyai back to Padang Besar, the train shuttle run twice daily at 7.30am and 2pm (Thailand time) daily.
After reaching Padang Besar by KTM komuter, you need to go up to Level 2 (Departure & Arrival Hall) of the station to exit the gate.
Then go direct to the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) ticketing counter to purchase Thai train ticket. You can pay in THB or in MYR. Thai train ticket comes with coach and seat number. After purchasing the ticket, get the white card (Thai Immigration Form) from a personnel at the waiting area and fill it up. After that get in queue and wait for instruction from the station auxillary police to get down to the ground floor to get M’sian passport stamped at the Malaysia Immigration Counter and after that to the Thailand immigration counter. After passing both immigration, you are now consider cleared immigration and Thailand is ready to welcome you. Finally you can board the Thai train.
